BMW Motorrad: The most awarded TikTok channel in Germany

BMW Motorrad and LOBECO win seven prestigious awards for brand communication that inspires young people

BMW Motorrad is outpacing the competition on TikTok – and inspiring more young people around the world with its brand than any other car manufacturer. The Bavarian motorcycle manufacturer and the digital consulting agency LOBECO from Munich have already received seven prestigious awards for their case “On the bike to the TikTok hype” in 2022: In addition to the German Brand Award in two categories, the MAX Award, the German Prize for Online Communication and twice the Best of Content Marketing Award, BMW Motorrad also picked up an international trophy for the first time with the Golden Award of Montreaux.

BMW Motorrad decided to strategically realign its product communication back in 2020. Social media was at the center of this transformation. As part of this, BMW Motorrad also launched its own channel on TikTok to expand reach and interactions in the young target group and underpin BMW Motorrad’s status as a first mover in digital communication.
The digital consulting agency LOBECO from Munich is responsible for the strategy, conception and implementation of BMW Motorrad’s social media brand communication.

In close cooperation with LOBECO, BMW Motorrad has taken its TikTok account from 150,000 to 1.8 million in 2021. The community itself became the main actor. The account has now broken the 2 million follower mark and is the largest automotive brand on TikTok. In 2021, an average of 800,000 views per video and more than 80 million views in total were achieved. The special feature: around 70 percent of the content on the channel is created directly by users from all over the world. This approach leads to very authentic and appreciative communication – the fans become stars. In addition, BMW Motorrad was the first motorcycle brand to focus 100% of its product launch on TikTok – and thus inspire the young community.

For BMW Motorrad, TikTok opens up the opportunity to address a completely new target group: The targeted use of social media makes it possible to reach significantly younger target groups and get them excited about the brand and its products. Never before has BMW Motorrad been able to build up such a large digital community in such a short time.
